Their 'lite' software is a emulated PDF printer, just like PDFcreator, CutePDF, and Bullzip PDF Printer. It bundles in their PDF-Xchange Viewer program but the 'lite' program is just their PDF printer. You aren't creating.pdf files with their 'lite' program like you would with Adobe Acrobat. You open a document in whatever app you want or that supports the filetype and then use its Print function to 'print' that document to a.pdf file. That's all they mean by a 'creation tool'. I suppose they could charge for the 'lite' program but then it doesn't have more than what the freeware PDF printers have so it would be pointless to try. Users would just find the freeware PDF printers and use those. It is silly they restrict use of their PDF printer to only the payware Pro users or to home/academic users since the other free PDF printers have less or no restrictions. BullZip doesn't restrict between home or business use but does limit the seat count to 10. CutePDF is free for both home and commercial use. PDFCreator is open source and free to everyone regardless of type of user. Have you tried their PDF printer (PDF-Xchange Lite) to know if you like it? Have you used other PDF printer programs so you can compare it against those regarding features, stability, and usability? Be careful of which of their download links you use. The ZIP Installer link is for their TRIAL version. You have to use their Non Commercial Release link to get the freeware version which has '_H' for home license at the end of the filename. The demo version is obvious in that PDF-Xchange Viewer is not part of the product and requires a separate download and install. The freeware version mixes in the Viewer app in with all the checkboxes for Viewer in the Lite install, including the web browser plug-ins and shell extension (so you have to disable all of them instead of just selecting a normally deselected checkbox just for a separate install of the PDF-Xchange Viewer). Sorry, but my perception is they are deliberately obfuscating which download is for their freeware version in trying to sucker you into getting their demo version and luring users to buy their payware version. Tis a bad marketing tactic. Being sly doesn't help their image regarding a freeware publisher. I use their PDF-Xchange Viewer but you have to be careful what you get from them. It's a pity that their freeware products are adware due to inclusion of foistware (e.g., Ask Toolbar) which are selected by default in their installers. Freeware- legally obtainable, local install computer programs which you may use at no cost, monetary or otherwise, for as long as you wish. Because of Googlespam, I block almost everything from Google Groups. I also usually block as much as possible from anonymous remailers and feeds, and other such rogue services because forger-trolls use them: anonymous (look for it in the Path header) mail2news (look for it in the Path header) mixmaster.* mixmin (look for it in the Path header) Pooh or any of its variants (look for it in the Subject or From headers) (look for it in the Message-ID header) remailer (look for it in the Path header) etc. (as they appear) P.S. I don't reply to complaints about my signature file length. It's laid out this way so that it's easier for people to see the individual rogue services. P##h the cat 27.01.12 02:20. Why promote something of which you have absolutely no knowledge? You don't know if it's any good or not or even if it is truly freeware. Announcements without any experience of the product devolve to 'what I found' diary entries here. Something you know or, at least, for which you did a short trial. >> Be careful of which of their download links you use. The ZIP Installer >> link is for their TRIAL version. It was a warning to others reading your post (note: 'you' is often a generic reference directed at the reader rather than to whom was addressed in a response). You did NOT warn that using the WRONG link ends up getting the demo/trial version instead of the freeware version. Oh yes, it must be my fault hence a rant because I mention what you omitted. You were NOT careful. Um, please explain how you could be careful when you admitted that you never installed or tried the product. You cannot be 'careful' on a download you never performed on a product you never installed and with which you have no experience. >> It's a pity that >> their freeware products are adware due to inclusion of foistware (e.g., >> Ask Toolbar) which are selected by default in their installers. I use their freeware reader for years, never used their Ask toolbar, > and one day what they offer surpass PDFill or PDF Creator I will not avoid a > whirl. So you choose to be blind to the definition of adware. Yeah, it's freeware but it's also adware. Being adware does not preclude a product from being freeware. LOTS of freeware products are adware. I use Avast (and have used Avira and other anti-virus products) and FormatFactory and they're adware, too, along with being freeware. Adware is freeware. The converse is not necessarily true. That you like their stuff (and so do I) doesn't mean you should be blind to their tactics or hide those tactics from others. You didn't get the Ask Toolbar because YOU had to elect NOT to select it. YOU had to DESELECT the foistware. Their default is to install the toolbar. That makes it adware. If the default were to not select the toolbar during the install then they would not be adware. I don't like their marketing tactics. I do like some of their products. I use their PDF-Xchange Viewer. I have trialed (for less than an hour in a virtual machine) their PDF-Xchange Lite product (a PDF printer) and that's how I know more than you about choosing the correct download link and that the product varies in how it bundles PDF-Xchange Viewer depending on whether you get their demo or free version. The Lite product looks good but I cannot claim that it is stable due to the short trial. It has lots of features but didn't see that it surpasses the BullZip PDF Printer that I'm already using. It does have a pretty interface. You have no experience with the product and admit that. You didn't even know or announce which download link to use to correctly obtain the freeware version. Someone else had to do that for you so others would know. What we got was another of those 'what I found today' diary posts. Yeah, now that's my rant. MiniMouse 27.01.12 13:51. Next is Bullzip with the 10-host max. The rest are unfettered as to who can use them, where they can be used, and how many copies an entity (user) may install. I only mentioned licensing for a few that I remembered discussed here. There are LOTS of [free] PDF printer utilities. Thanks for prodding on the license issue. It often gets overlooked.
